Guadiz suspended for bribe charges

Malacañang has ordered the suspension of Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III after being accused of bribery and corruption practices.

In a statement released by the Presidential Communications Office, the President said he has also ordered an investigation into the allegations against Guadiz.

“The President does not tolerate any misconduct in his administration and has instructed the immediate investigation of this matter. He strongly condemns dishonesty and duplicity in public service,” the PCO statement said.

Guadiz was accused by his former IT and communications head Jeff Gallos Tumbado of accepting some 5 million pesos to facilitate to approval of requests to his office.

Included in the list of accusations were P10 million pesos for the upgrade of UV Express units in Region 3, approval of Grab franchises in Pampanga for P810,000, and P140,000 Guadiz allegedly received by having it stowed inside his office drawer.

In a separate move, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista ordered Guadiz to explain within 3-days or be dismissed.

Guadiz was earlier relieved of his position in the Land Transportation Office or LTO amid rumors he wanted to replace the current IT provider of LTO with a more favorable company.
