Hariphil Asia Resources Inc. (HARI), the official distributor of Volvo in the Philippines, has expanded its model lineup with the launch of two new all-electric vehicles, the ES90 Ultra BEV and the EX90 Ultra BEV. Volvo said that both electric vehicles are engineered with advanced safety technologies along with modern digital features and passenger comfort.

“With the launch of the Volvo ES90 Ultra BEV and EX90 Ultra BEV, we are introducing not only Volvo’s next-generation electric vehicles in the Philippines, but also the principle of shaping a future that values safety and responsibility,” said HARI Vice Chairman, President, and CEO Maria Fe Perez-Agudo.

The Volvo ES90 Ultra BEV is an all-electric sedan that features a sleek exterior design complemented by crisp character lines. The front end has sharp-looking headlamps along with a large bumper that’s integrated with black trims. It also comes with a set of stylish wheels, flush door handles, and a sloping roofline with a fastback design.

Volvo PH said that the ES90 has a 0.25 Cd aerodynamic coefficient, which enables the electric vehicle (EV) to maximize its range. Meanwhile, the automatic spoiler shutter at the lower half of the fascia helps cool the high-voltage battery and operates automatically.

Inside, the Volvo ES90 has a modern theme, which is highlighted by the large infotainment touchscreen seen in the center of the dashboard. A smaller screen is seen behind the steering wheel, which serves as the ES90’s instrument gauge cluster. The steering wheel, on the other hand, comes with a gloss black trim where the controls are located. The said controls most likely come with a haptic function.

This electric sedan also comes with a panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable and ventilated front seats with a massage function. It also has a four-zone climate control system, center armrest, and cupholders.

It has seven cameras, five radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, which allow the EV to have comprehensive awareness of the road, obstacles, and other vehicles, according to Volvo. The ES90 also comes with Pilot Assist that includes Lane Keeping, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Navigation Support.

The ES90 Ultra BEV is said to be the first Volvo sedan to feature 800-volt EV architecture, marking a significant milestone in Volvo’s electrification journey. It offers a maximum range of 700 kilometers (WLTP) on a single charge, and it is capable of DC fast charging.

Autocar’s Take

Volvo Philippines has expanded its model lineup with the launch of two new all-electric vehicles, the ES90 and the EX90. The launch of these two new EVs further shows that Volvo PH wants to beef up its product offerings in the premium EV market, which makes sense since BMW Philippines has also been expanding its electric and even hybrid model lineup.

The ES90 and the EX90 allow Volvo PH to have products that can cater to a diverse range of potential clients. The ES90 is for those who are looking for an all-electric sedan, while the EX90 is for those who are in the market for an electric seven-seater SUV.
