Motorists recently apprehended for taking the EDSA Carousel Bus Lane northbound in Pasay could face possible license suspension— even revocation — should authorities find out that they have reached the 40-point demerit system.
Although the demerit for using the exclusive lane is only five points (disregarding traffic signs), driver’s license holders who have accumulated the aforementioned number for their past violations could have their licenses revoked or suspended.
A total of 150 motorists were nabbed by the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (I-ACT) for passing through the EDSA Bus Carousel northbound express lane in Malibay, Pasay City.
To recall, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority already issued a stern warning to motorists who will use the EDSA Carousel Bus Lane as aside from getting arrested, they could also get involved in fatal incidents.
MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said that those who can use the EDSA Carousel bus lane are passenger buses, ambulances, and marked government vehicles answering to emergencies.
Motorists have been complaining about fancy cars, politicians and even taxi’s using the bus lane and then exiting at dangerous areas putting thos on the proper lane at risk.
Motorcycle rider have also been victims of crashes inside the bus lane. Last June 14, 2023, a motorcycle rider was decapitated after being sideswiped in the wee hours of the morning.
