The TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) GT Cup Asia 2024 reached a thrilling finale at the Connexion Conference and Event Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where 15 of the region’s best e-Motorsports racers battled for the coveted title of Asia Champion. Competitors from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand raced across three exhilarating tracks, all vying for the honor of representing Asia at the TGR GT Cup Global Finals in Amsterdam this December.
In a gripping display of skill and determination, Malaysia’s Taj Izrin Aiman clinched the TGR GT Cup Asia 2024 Individual Championship, securing 65 points and a hard-fought victory. Close behind was Indonesia’s Andika Rama, the 2023 champion, who took second place with 57 points. Fellow Indonesian, Moreno Pratama, made his debut on the podium, finishing third with 48 points. Indonesia’s impressive performance throughout the event earned them the Country Championship title.
Competing on Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation®5 and PlayStation®4, racers navigated iconic circuits including Sardegna Windmills, Nürburgring Grand Prix (GP), and Fuji International Speedway, delivering intense action and strategic gameplay at every turn.
“At the heart of Toyota and the GAZOO Racing GT Cup Asia is the spirit of Kaizen—continuous improvement. It’s inspiring to see the dedication from our drivers and supporters, and how e-Motorsports continues to advance,” said Jaja Ishibashi, General Manager of Toyota Motor Asia (TMA). “Congratulations to all the racers for their incredible performances, and best of luck to Aiman and Rama as they take on the world’s best at the Global Finals!”
Panat Leelavansuk, TMA General Manager for Vehicle Design Engineering, added, “The level of skill demonstrated by these young racers is remarkable. With the support of Razer headsets, racers were able to communicate seamlessly with their teams, sharing strategies and insights. This competition is a testament to the passion and commitment of today’s e-sports athletes.”
Three Unforgettable Races Define the 2024 Finals
The competition kicked off with the first race on Sardegna Windmills, TGR GT Asia Cup’s debut rally track, where drivers raced in GR Yaris cars. Indonesia’s Rama dominated the race, while drivers from Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia battled closely, finishing within seconds of each other.
The second race at Nürburgring GP saw a reverse grid and challenging rain conditions. Indonesia’s Pratama took advantage of his starting position to claim victory in the GR Corolla Morizo Edition ’22, while Malaysian drivers finished strong in second and third positions.
The final race at Fuji International Speedway was a true test of endurance and strategy. With drivers racing the GR010 Hybrid ’21, Aiman’s strategic pit stop and tire choices allowed him to maintain his lead and secure the overall championship.
“I’m beyond thrilled with this victory,” said Aiman. “Last year, I couldn’t finish the race due to technical difficulties, but today, all the hard work paid off. I’m excited to represent Asia in Amsterdam!”
Returning champion Andika Rama praised his competitor, stating, “Competing against Aiman was a challenge, and his consistency across all races was incredible. I’m honored to represent Asia again and can’t wait for the Global Finals.”
Special Recognitions and Prizes
In addition to the championship titles, special awards were presented: Aiman was named Driver of the Day, the Philippines’ Russel Reyes earned Best Racecraft, and Rama won Fastest Race Pace.
The event was supported by Razer Inc., the official headset partner, providing racers with Razer BlackShark V2 X e-sports headsets for clear communication throughout the event.
Aiman and Rama will now prepare to compete at the TGR GT Cup Global Finals in Amsterdam on December 6, where they will face the world’s top e-Motorsports racers.
