The Baojun Yep is coming…

Check out the Baojun Yep, a mini electric 2-door SUV that came together from a joint venture between GM, SAIC and Wuling.

Exterior

It has Square Box styling and is about 300mm shorter than the Suzuki Jimny. The Baojin Yep’s dimensions are: length 3381mm, width 1685mm and height of 1721mm. LED headlights are dash-shaped and around back is an optional Car-Watch and LED display which allows owners to customize what appears on the display with a smartphone app. It rolls on 15” alloy wheels wrapped in 195/60’s.

Interior

It gets a 3-spoke steering wheel with controls, the driver seat is electrically adjustable, and two 10.25” lcd displays, one for the infotainment and one for the guage cluster. On the center console, instead of a shift lever, it has a rotary switch for drive select, power window controls and an electric park brake. It’s also equipped with electronically adjustable side mirrors, 360 camera, USB charging ports and a driver side airbag.

Powertrain

Powered by a 28.1 kWh lithium-ion battery, it can deliver max power of 68hp with 140Nm of torque and is claimed to be have a range of 303kms (CLTC conditions). Equipped with a single motor, it is rear wheel driven with the motor rear axle mounted and has a limited maximum speed of 100kp/h. The battery can be DC fast charged in 35 minutes from 30-80%, while with AC charging, it would take about 8.5 hours to charge from 20-80%.

Driver Assist

The top of the line variant will probably be equipped with Advanced Driver Assist System, which uses binocular cameras to scan ahead and would most likely include adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring and other features. The same app that controls the Car-Watch display on the rear can also control windows, air conditioning, vehicle diagnosis and vehicle location.

According to Autocar India, it will be available there rebadged as an MG. Wuling Philippines already has a teaser for it on their website and it will be called the Baojun Yue when they finally launch it here.

It costs about US$ 13K, or about Php 715K, but as of now the local distributor hasn’t yet published a price.
