Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has launched a safety recall campaign for select Toyota and Lexus vehicles due to a faulty rear camera display. The recall affects a combined 11,751 vehicles as per TMP’s announcement on the official Toyota Philippines and Lexus Philippines websites.

TMP has also notified the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) regarding its safety recall campaign for select Toyota and Lexus vehicles. TMP noted that it has launched a Special Service Campaign to reprogram the Parking Assist ECU on multiple Toyota and Lexus models.

The affected Toyota vehicles amount to a total of 8,493 units, which include the Alphard, Camry, Land Cruiser, Land Cruiser Prado, and RAV4. Shown above is the breakdown of the affected Toyota vehicles.

On the other hand, the total number of Lexus vehicles affected by the recall amounts to 3,258 units. It includes Lexus models such as the ES, GX, LC, LM, and LS, among others. Refer to the full list of the affected Lexus vehicles below.

TMP stated that the affected vehicles are equipped with a Parking Assist ECU, which is part of the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system that displays the rearview image that’s fed by the rear camera. Due to the ECU programming, the rearview image may sometimes freeze briefly when reversing if the reverse gear is selected shortly after the ignition is turned on. TMP added that it may also fail to display when the vehicle is restarted within a short time.

As such, over 11,700 Toyota and Lexus vehicles are being recalled in the Philippines due to a faulty rear camera display that sometimes freezes or does not completely display when the reverse gear is selected. These conditions could increase the risk of an accident while backing up.

TMP will notify affected customers through an Official Notification Letter and will be invited by authorized Toyota or Lexus Dealers to reprogram the Parking Assist ECU at No Charge to the vehicle owners. Customers may also check if their vehicles are included in any active Service Campaign for Toyota models at https://online.toyota.com.ph/service-campaign or Lexus models at https://www.lexus.com.ph/en/servicing-and-support/service-campaign.html.
