Mazda Philippines has reinforced its long-standing commitment to sustainability and biodiversity with the launch of the 1,500 Pangolin Project, a new initiative in partnership with the Katala Foundation. This year-long program furthers Mazda’s mission to contribute meaningfully to environmental preservation, particularly the protection of the critically endangered Philippine Pangolin (Manis culionensis).

Mazda’s partnership with the Palawan-based Katala Foundation began in 2020, focusing on efforts to restore the pangolin’s native habitat, combat poaching, and raise public awareness. In 2021, Mazda donated a BT-50 Pangolin Edition pickup to support the Foundation’s on-ground conservation work.
Beginning May 2025, Mazda Philippines will donate ₱1,500 from every sale of the new Mazda BT-50 to the Katala Foundation. Proceeds will help fund wildlife rescue, anti-poaching patrols, and educational campaigns to safeguard the future of the Philippine Pangolin.
“This partnership with Mazda gives us hope—not just for the Philippine Pangolin but for the power of unified action in conservation,” said Dr. Sabine Schoppe, program director at the Katala Foundation.
Coinciding with this initiative is the debut of the updated Mazda BT-50. The latest iteration of the pickup truck features a more robust design aligned with Mazda’s KODO – Soul of Motion design language. The cabin now includes a refreshed infotainment system, a 360-degree camera with built-in video recording, and improved material quality throughout.
Powered by a 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, the BT-50 delivers both efficiency and reliable performance. Features such as Hill Launch Assist and Rough Terrain Mode on the 4×4 Pangolin Edition enhance drivability even under demanding conditions.
“The 1,500 Pangolin Project is a testament to our dedication to sustainability beyond mobility,” said Steven Tan, President of Mazda Philippines. “This program reflects our long-term vision under Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030, aligning environmental responsibility with the everyday driving experience.”
