Kia Philippines is celebrating another milestone for its bestselling subcompact SUV as the Kia Sonet Pilipinas Club marked its second anniversary, highlighting the model’s growing owner community alongside the Sonet’s strong performance in the Philippine automotive market.
Held in Tanay, Rizal, the anniversary gathering brought together more than 80 Kia Sonet units representing different variants, trims, colors, and personalization styles. The event also coincided with another major achievement for the nameplate after Kia Philippines announced that local Kia Sonet sales have surpassed 10,000 units since its Philippine launch.
According to Kia Philippines Managing Director Jay Lopez, the rapid expansion of the Kia Sonet Pilipinas Club reflects the vehicle’s sustained popularity among Filipino motorists and demonstrates the strong relationship between the brand and its customers.
Club president Len Bonacua said attendance grew significantly from around 60 participants during last year’s anniversary to over 80 this year. The expanding population reflects the steady increase in membership as more owners join the community.

Beyond showcasing modified and stock vehicles, the celebration featured a convoy and interactive activities that allowed longtime owners and newcomers to exchange driving experiences, maintenance tips, and technical knowledge. Members also highlighted the welcoming atmosphere that has become one of the club’s biggest strengths.
The anniversary drive through Tanay also demonstrated the Kia Sonet’s versatility for Philippine roads. Powered by a 1.5-liter engine paired with an intelligent variable transmission, the subcompact SUV combines fuel efficiency with everyday practicality. Its 205 mm ground clearance also allows drivers to confidently tackle rough roads while remaining comfortable for daily city driving.
Safety remains another key selling point. The Kia Sonet comes equipped with Kia DriveWise advanced driver assistance systems, including Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keep Assist, and Lane Follow Assist, providing additional confidence for first-time buyers and experienced motorists alike. Club members also shared how these features contribute to a more reassuring driving experience during everyday travel.
As Kia Philippines continues expanding its nationwide presence, the growing Kia Sonet Pilipinas Club reflects how the popular subcompact SUV has evolved beyond transportation, becoming the foundation of an active community united by shared ownership and memorable road adventures together.
Autocar’s Take
The Kia Sonet’s success in the Philippines goes beyond impressive sales figures. Reaching 10,000 units is noteworthy, but the stronger story is the community that has grown around the vehicle. Owner clubs often reveal whether a model genuinely resonates with buyers, and the Kia Sonet Pilipinas Club is doing exactly that.
Practical features, modern safety technology, and affordability may attract customers initially, but meaningful ownership experiences encourage them to stay engaged. For Kia Philippines, nurturing this community could become just as valuable as selling more vehicles, strengthening customer loyalty while enhancing the brand’s long-term reputation in the local automotive market.
