As part of its ongoing commitment to transparency and driver welfare, global ride-hailing platform inDrive recently hosted an open forum with its partner drivers. This initiative aims to foster collaboration, provide a platform for drivers to share their insights, and enhance the overall ride-hailing experience.
The event, held at inDrive’s Philippine headquarters in Quezon City, brought together dozens of drivers and key company executives, including APAC Regional Director Mark Tolley, Business Development Head Sofia Guinto, Driver Operations Head for the Philippines Vanessa Taqueban, and Country Government Relations Manager John Louie Balagot. Discussions revolved around crucial topics such as surge pricing, emergency contingency plans, and additional earning opportunities, all in line with inDrive’s mission to create a fair, driver-first ecosystem.
Optimizing Earnings Through Pricing Mechanisms
One of the key areas of discussion centered around inDrive’s pricing mechanism, particularly during peak hours. Partner drivers raised concerns about incentives during rush hours, weekends, and holidays. In response, Guinto explained that inDrive is actively testing surge mechanisms at different times of the day to optimize earnings while ensuring compliance with fare regulations set by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
“We are working to strike a balance between affordability for passengers and maximizing drivers’ earnings, while ensuring they retain 90% of their income,” Guinto emphasized.
To supplement these efforts, inDrive has introduced innovative earning opportunities, such as its partnership with cryptocurrency exchange Coins.ph and decentralized mapping network Hivemapper. Through this initiative, participating drivers install Hivemapper devices in their vehicles to contribute to global map updates, earning $HONEY tokens as additional income, which they can manage via Coins.ph wallets.
Enhancing Driver Support and Safety
Recognizing the need for robust contingency plans, partner drivers also suggested emergency measures such as SOS plans, towing assistance, and advanced vehicle troubleshooting support. Guinto assured attendees that inDrive is actively exploring partnerships to address these concerns.
Currently, inDrive has existing collaborations with Toyota Philippines (Quezon Avenue branch) and RideSecure Car Care Center. These partnerships provide quarterly training sessions on basic vehicle troubleshooting and offer comprehensive insurance packages at rates 10-16% lower than market prices, reinforcing the platform’s commitment to driver and passenger safety.
A Platform That Listens
The open forum underscored inDrive’s emphasis on direct engagement with partner drivers. Driver Sherwin Gaspar, who recently transitioned from an office job to full-time ride-hailing, praised inDrive for valuing their input and enabling financial stability with a flexible schedule.
“The biggest advantage for me is that I get to spend more time with my family while still earning well. I can pick up my kids and join family events without having to ask permission from an office,” Gaspar shared.
Tolley expressed his gratitude to drivers for their role in inDrive’s rapid growth since its relaunch in June 2024. “The progress we’ve made in the last six to seven months is remarkable, and it’s only the beginning. Your contributions are driving inDrive’s expansion across the Philippines,” he said.
As inDrive continues to evolve, it remains committed to empowering partner drivers through fair earnings, enhanced safety measures, and continuous dialogue. For more updates, visit www.inDrive.com.
