Hyundai bags multiple accolades at International Design Excellence Awards 2024

Hyundai Motor Company secured top honors at the 2024 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), earning prestigious accolades for its innovative designs. The company won ‘Gold’ for the IONIQ 5 N, ‘Bronze’ for the SANTA FE, and both the ‘Curator’s Choice Award’ and a ‘Gold’ for its Hyundai Heritage: Retrace Collection Book ‘PONY’.

Hyundai Heritage: Retrace Collection Book ‘PONY’ Takes Center Stage

Hyundai’s Heritage: Retrace Collection Book ‘PONY’ was awarded the coveted ‘Curator’s Choice Award,’ a distinction given to just one project annually across all categories. This book, part of Hyundai’s Heritage Project, reflects the company’s focus on humanity as the cornerstone of its success. It chronicles the history of Hyundai’s first mass-produced vehicle, the PONY, through design sketches, development documents, and interview materials, preserving the legacy of this iconic car.

IONIQ 5 N – The High-Performance EV Wins Gold

The IONIQ 5 N, Hyundai’s groundbreaking high-performance electric vehicle (EV), earned a Gold Award at IDEA 2024. As the 2024 World Performance Car of the Year, the IONIQ 5 N exemplifies Hyundai N’s electrification strategy, offering exceptional racetrack capabilities and innovative performance features. Built on the award-winning Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the IONIQ 5 N incorporates motorsport-derived technologies, showcasing Hyundai’s leadership in high-performance EV design.

SANTA FE – Award-Winning Versatility with a Bold Design

Hyundai’s all-new SANTA FE SUV took home the Bronze Award at IDEA 2024. Designed around the ‘Open for More’ concept, this fifth-generation SUV features a spacious interior with flexible seating, an extended wheelbase, and a wide tailgate opening, perfect for outdoor adventures. Its bold exterior design, characterized by a distinctive silhouette and H-motif elements, sets it apart. Inside, sustainable materials and high-tech features create a modern, welcoming ambiance, enhanced by natural light-inspired color schemes.

Additional Recognitions in the Automotive & Transportation Category

IDEA 2024 also commended Hyundai’s other innovative designs, including the SANTA FE XRT Concept, SPACE (Spatial Curated Experience), and the Hyundai Motor Group Global EV Home Charger.

  • SANTA FE XRT Concept: Designed for rugged terrain, this SUV emphasizes practicality with off-road wheels, a roof-mounted luggage rack, and additional storage, offering the ultimate in versatility for adventurous outdoor journeys.
  • SPACE: Unveiled at CES 2024, SPACE is a public mobility solution designed to provide unrestricted travel access, particularly for individuals with mobility impairments. It features an Adaptive Seat and boarding height control, ensuring easy accessibility for wheelchair users. The SPACE Pavilion extension supports disadvantaged areas with sustainable energy and crop cultivation, utilizing its hydrogen fuel cell system.
  • Global EV Home Charger: Hyundai’s versatile and compact EV Home Charger delivers charging outputs ranging from 7 to 22 kW and adapts to various installation environments. Integrated with an app-based home energy management system, it offers personalized, efficient charging for Hyundai’s EV lineup.

Other Notable Wins for Hyundai

Hyundai Motor also achieved success in other categories, winning Gold for the Hyundai Heritage PONY Project in the Branding category and Bronze for the Sustainable Paper Package Series in the Packaging category. The Hyundai Multi Lantern was named a finalist in the Outdoor & Garden category.

In addition to the IDEA 2024 honors, Hyundai’s designs were recognized at other prestigious design awards this year, including the Red Dot Awards and iF Design Awards.
