Toyota didn’t wait any longer to confirm the arrival of the GR Corolla in the Philippines, as it has now officially opened the reservation books for its latest Gazoo Racing model. This means that the GR vehicles locally available will now be a total of three models, with the GR Yaris and the GR Supra completing the trifecta of performance vehicles from Toyota.
As previously reported, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) shared last week a shadowy teaser image of a mystery vehicle that will be launching soon in the market. Back then, TMP did not confirm which GR model would be arriving in the country, but the Japanese car brand mentioned that it would be the star of its GR Trackday, scheduled to take place in the third week of December.
Now it is confirmed that the vehicle debuting at the said track day is the GR Corolla. However, Toyota has yet to announce the complete PH specs of the upcoming GR Corolla. If we compare it to other markets, the GR Corolla has been updated with performance upgrades, such as increasing the torque output by 30 Nm, as compared to the older version.
Toyota said that this allows the updated GR Corolla to have better acceleration, and it essentially raised the vehicle’s maximum torque to 400 Nm. The increased torque complements the GR Corolla’s power output delivery, which is rated at 300 horsepower. In case you’re wondering, it is equipped with a 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine.
Toyota added that the GR Corolla is equipped with the newly developed eight-speed Gazoo Racing Direct automatic transmission. It is also fitted with revised suspension components, which are designed to deliver better traction during hard cornering.
But then again, Toyota Philippines has yet to release the official specs as well as the pricing of the upcoming GR Corolla.
