FUSO Philippines previews Next-Gen eCanter EV truck

Sojitz Fuso Philippines Corporation (SFP) recently hosted an exclusive driving event, offering a firsthand experience of electric mobility through the Next Generation FUSO eCanter. Held on October 18, 2024, the event welcomed SFP dealers, key network accounts, and media partners to test drive the cutting-edge electric light-duty truck, marking its first showcase in the Philippines.

The eCanter, a Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) unit, was brought in specifically for demonstration and test drive purposes, giving participants a rare opportunity to experience the latest in electric commercial vehicle technology. Although the model is not yet available for sale in the local market, the event provided valuable insights into the eCanter’s innovative performance, sustainability, and economic potential.

eAXLE: Next-Generation Electric Powertrain

The eCanter features the advanced eAxle technology, which integrates the motor directly with the axle to reduce energy losses and enhance efficiency. This breakthrough in electric powertrain design ensures optimized vehicle performance and smooth driving dynamics.

Bold Exterior Design with Safety in Mind

The eCanter’s exterior stands out with FUSO’s iconic black belt motif, combining power and sophistication. The truck is equipped with long-lasting LED headlights for superior visibility, enhancing road safety. This modern yet functional design ensures the eCanter is not only visually appealing but also aerodynamically efficient.

Comfortable and Driver-Centered Interior

Inside the cabin, the eCanter features a fully digital instrument cluster, offering easy access to essential vehicle information. A shift-by-wire gear system simplifies control, while ergonomically designed seats with adjustable settings enhance comfort for long drives. The spacious cabin and a lower dashboard provide better visibility and a sense of openness, improving the overall driving experience.

Flexible Charging for Urban Mobility

The eCanter is equipped with a Combined Charging System (CCS) Type 2 AC/DC inlet, offering flexible charging options. Depending on the battery configuration, the vehicle can deliver an estimated range of up to 200 kilometers per charge. This makes it ideal for urban deliveries and longer routes, aligning with the growing demand for zero-emission logistics.

Advanced Safety Features for Urban Roads

The eCanter is loaded with advanced active safety technologies, including:

  • Active Brake Assist: Provides emergency braking support to prevent collisions.
  • Active Sideguard Assist: Enhances driver awareness during turns.
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System and intelligent headlight control, adding further safety and reliability to the driving experience.

These features position the eCanter as a practical and secure option for modern urban logistics.

Driving the Future of Electric Mobility in the Philippines

During the event, SFP President and CEO Mr. Yosuke Nishi welcomed participants, saying:“The EV market in the Philippines is gaining momentum, and FUSO is committed to being part of this exciting growth. Today’s Ride & Drive event gives us a glimpse into the future of electric commercial vehicles. With industries like logistics and e-commerce on the rise, we believe the Next Generation eCanter has the potential to meet these emerging needs.” He further emphasized: “Although this is not an official launch and the eCanter is not yet available in the Philippine market, today’s event marks the beginning of our journey towards electric mobility. Let’s spread the word—FUSO is here, and we are ready for the future.”

A Glimpse into the Future

Participants, including dealers, key accounts, and media partners, had the opportunity to drive the eCanter in a controlled setting, experiencing its smooth handling and innovative features firsthand. This practical exposure provided attendees with a deeper understanding of the eCanter’s capabilities as a next-generation electric vehicle.

While there is no official timeline for the eCanter’s commercial launch in the Philippines, SFP remains committed to exploring market opportunities. The driving event serves as a preview of the benefits and advantages the eCanter can offer to the Philippine market, reinforcing FUSO’s dedication to sustainable mobility solutions.

The Next Generation eCanter showcases FUSO’s commitment to the evolving needs of logistics and e-commerce, positioning itself as a flexible, reliable, and eco-friendly option for urban transportation. SFP will continue to monitor local market developments and explore the feasibility of introducing the eCanter to Filipino customers.

This driving experience marks an exciting step toward sustainable commercial transportation, giving attendees a sneak peek into the potential future of electric logistics in the Philippines.
