Lamborghini has revealed its most powerful sport utility vehicle (SUV) to date, the new Urus SE Performante. The Italian automaker said that the new Urus SE Performante combines extreme performance, driving precision, and uncompromising comfort.

Lamborghini calls the new Urus SE Performante a plug-in hybrid Super SUV that is claimed to set a new benchmark in its category for performance, driving dynamics, and aerodynamic efficiency, while not compromising overall comfort. The engineers behind the Urus SE Performante focused on reducing the vehicle’s weight and improving aerodynamics.

To make that possible, Lamborghini shared that the Urus SE Performante’s body is integrated with carbon fiber components. These include the new hood design, as well as the front and rear bumpers, which are said to work in synergy with the two rear spoilers in making the vehicle light and aerodynamic. As such, the carbon fiber elements allow the new Urus SE Performante to have better aerodynamic downforce by 16 percent compared to the previous Performante, and 23 percent better compared to the Urus SE.

The Lamborghini Urus SE Performante is also equipped with an all-new cooling system. Instead of relying on air intakes positioned underneath the vehicle, it features new hood vents functioning as an S-Duct. It also comes with a NACA duct, which is said to improve brake cooling of the Urus SE Performante by eight percent.

“This is the most powerful Urus ever, and during the development phase it was clear that the design needed to ensure both emotional impact and functional performance. That’s why we created these large S-Duct air intakes on the hood, which not only give the front end an even sportier presence but also perform an essential aerodynamic function,” said Lamborghini Design Director Mitja Borkert.

To save more weight, Lamborghini opted to use lightweight composite materials and a titanium Akrapovic exhaust system that saves over 10 kilograms, which makes it 32 kilograms lighter than the standard Urus SE.

Inside, it comes with a modern driver-oriented dashboard, which Lamborghini calls a “feel like a pilot” concept. At the center of the dashboard, a new 12.3-inch infotainment central screen has been installed, which is complemented by an aviation-inspired mechanical button panel that further emphasizes the car brand’s “feel like a pilot” concept. The Urus SE Performante also comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while the interior is accented by red stitching and carbon fiber trims.

The Urus SE Performante is powered by the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain as the Urus SE. But through its carbon fiber materials, weight reduction, and revamped tuning, the Lamborghini Urus SE Performante puts out 801 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of torque. This means that the Urus SE Performante comes with an additional 11 hp and 50 Nm more than the Urus SE.

The Italian automaker claims that the Urus SE Performante can go from zero to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds before reaching a top speed of 312 km/h. Of note, the 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine is paired with a synchronous electric motor with power supplied by a 25.9 kWh battery. Lamborghini added that the Urus SE Performante can drive in full-electric mode for over 60 kilometers.

Autocar’s Take

The new Urus SE Performante shows that Lamborghini is serious about making its SUV even quicker and more powerful. By integrating carbon fiber materials into the vehicle, Lamborghini was able to make the Urus lighter, which results into being a quicker vehicle. Packed with a 4.0-liter V8 engine, it can put out 801 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque. What’s more interesting is that it can accelerate to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of 312 km/h. It can also drive in full-electric mode for over 60 kilometers.
