GAC Philippines officially launched the Aion UT in May, an electric vehicle (EV) that aims to attract younger city drivers who are looking for a vehicle that’s simple to park, easy to maneuver, and has generous interior space.

GAC previously said that the Aion UT had massive success in major global automotive markets like Thailand, Europe, and Latin America. GAC PH intends to do the same, and it shared five reasons why the Aion UT is a practical EV.

1. Massive “Big Car Energy” in a Compact Footprint

GAC said that the Aion UT offers an open, lounge-like cabin, featuring a class-leading 2,750mm wheelbase that delivers a generous 905mm of rear legroom. Through this, it claims that three adults can ride comfortably in the back without rubbing knees. The Aion UT’s “Big Car Energy” presents an interior space of a much larger vehicle while remaining perfectly sized for navigating the urban jungle.

2. Ultimate Urban Utility for an Empowered Lifestyle

The GAC Aion UT comes with a 440-liter boot space, which makes grocery runs manageable with arguably room to spare for other items. The cargo space can be further maximized when the rear seats are folded, accommodating larger items such as luggage or sports gear.

The GAC Aion UT also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, transforming the car into a mobile power source. This allows you to run electronic devices directly during outdoor trips or weekend getaways.

3. Total Peace of Mind with an Advanced Safety Suite

Tech-wise, the GAC Aion UT is loaded with an advanced suite of driver assistance systems (ADAS). It is equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and a 360-degree Surround View Camera System. It also comes with 2.1-meter V-shape side curtain airbags and an intelligent Drive-off Assist system.

4. A Seamless, Tech-Forward Cabin Experience

Inside, the GAC Aion UT comes with a clutter-free dashboard design, which is integrated with an 8.88-inch LCD instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch Touch Control Central Screen, which comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. GAC previously shared that the Aion UT’s cabin emphasizes functionality and everyday comfort. The cabin incorporates multiple thoughtfully integrated storage compartments designed to reduce clutter and create what GAC describes as a “mobile sanctuary.”

5. Agile Performance and Zero-Anxiety Fast Charging

The GAC Aion UT Elite variant runs a front-mounted electric motor with 100 kW (about 134 horsepower) and 145 Nm of torque. It also features a 47.1 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, which provides a driving range of 400 kilometres (NEDC) on a single full charge. Speaking of charging, GAC claims the Aion UT’s DC fast charging capability can replenish the power from 30 percent to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes.

The Aion UT Elite is priced at P1.068 million, but GAC PH is offering it at an introductory price of P998,000 until June 30, 2026. If you’re among the first 400 buyers, you get another P20,000 off on top of that. It is available with the following exterior colors: Champs-Elysees Beige, Emerald Green, Rococo White, and Seine Silver, plus a two-tone combination of Rococo White and Emerald Green.

Autocar’s Take

The GAC Aion UT is an electric hatchback that’s said to come with notable interior space, which is why GAC Philippines is marketing it with the slogan “Big Car Energy.” Highlighting its interior space is important since this is something that’s not a priority when talking about a compact hatchback. However, GAC aims to change this as it confidently promotes the Aion UT as a compact hatchback that comes with notable interior space.

The Aion UT’s dashboard comes with a clutter-free design, and is filled with two screens, which is something of a norm in modern EVs, or shall we say, for most of the cars that are manufactured by a Chinese automaker. Overall, the GAC Aion UT looks promising and can be competitive with its segment rivals, such as the Chery Q and BYD Dolphin, among others.
