Axa PH film shows real risks Filipino motorists face everyday

As road crashes and travel-related incidents continue to affect thousands of Filipinos every year, Axa Philippines is reminding motorists that every trip carries a responsibility that goes beyond simply getting from one place to another.

In line with Road Safety Month this May, the insurance provider launched the second short film under its “Everyday Protectors” campaign. This highlights the realities faced by Filipino drivers and the importance of staying protected against unexpected situations on the road.

The campaign comes at a time when road safety remains a pressing concern in the country. According to data cited by Axa, the Highway Patrol Group recorded more than 31,000 vehicular crashes in 2024, while the Department of Health also reported over 1,000 road-related injuries during the Holy Week travel period alone.

The film centers on Fred, a father driving to his daughter’s wedding when their vehicle suddenly breaks down on the road. Despite the stressful situation, he manages to stay composed with the help of Axa’s 24/7 roadside assistance, allowing him to focus on getting his daughter to the church on time.

In a lighthearted twist, the bride eventually makes her entrance aboard an unusual mode of transportation in today’s fast-paced world, turning what could have been a major disruption into a memorable family moment. Axa said the story reflects the reality that even responsible motorists with well-maintained vehicles can still encounter unforeseen problems while traveling.

The company also pointed to Philippine National Police data showing that mechanical defects accounted for 2.52% of recorded road mishaps in 2024. While relatively small compared to other causes, the figure underscores the unpredictability of road travel and the need for motorists to be prepared for emergencies.

Beyond promoting safer roads, Axa said its car insurance solutions are designed to support Filipino drivers through comprehensive protection for vehicles, drivers, and passengers. The company’s offerings also include add-on services such as roadside assistance and coverage against Acts of Nature.

Established in 1999, Axa Philippines is among the country’s largest insurance providers, serving over a million individuals through life and general insurance products. The company is a joint venture between the global Axa Group, GT Capital Holdings Inc., and Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company.

Autocar’s Take

Road safety campaigns often focus on statistics, but Axa Philippines took a more relatable approach by highlighting the emotional side of driving. For many Filipinos, being behind the wheel is tied to family responsibilities, daily sacrifices, and the pressure of making sure loved ones arrive safely.

The short film succeeds because it reflects situations motorists can easily imagine themselves in. Mechanical breakdowns and road emergencies can happen to anyone, no matter how careful they are. By combining storytelling with practical reminders about preparedness and protection, Axa delivers a campaign that feels grounded in real-life experiences instead of sounding like a typical insurance advertisement.
