Is Chevy Spark making a Philippine comeback?

Hariphil Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), the official distributor of Chevrolet vehicles in the Philippines, is all set to enter its challenger in the growing battery electric vehicle market with the Spark.

The said model name could most likely ring a bell in the local market as Chevrolet previously offered it as a subcompact hatchback in the Philippines, rivaling the likes of the Toyota Wigo and Kia Picanto. Now, the Spark is making its Philippine comeback, but not as a hatchback but as an all-electric subcompact crossover SUV.

The news of the Chevrolet Spark’s return in the Philippines is confirmed, as it appeared in the Department of Energy’s (DOE) list of recognized electric vehicles (EVs). The vehicle listed on DOE’s list is the Chevrolet Spark EUV Activ variant, which is set to go up against the likes of other electric crossover SUVs in the market, such as the BYD Atto 3 and the VinFast 5.

To put things in perspective, the upcoming Chevrolet Spark EUV Activ is sized closely with the Toyota Raize. Of note, the Raize is not an EV; we just used the said vehicle for reference to give an idea of the Spark’s dimensions: 4,003mm long, 1,760mm wide, and 1,726mm tall.

The Chevrolet Spark EUV comes with a 41.9 kWh battery along with a power output of 101 horsepower and 180 Nm of torque, and offers up to 360 km of range on a single charge. Speaking of charge, the Spark EUV comes with AC and DC charging compatibility, with the capability to charge from 30 to 80 percent in 35 minutes.

Other initial specs that are available courtesy of the DOE suggest that the Spark EUV will come with LED headlights, keyless entry, 16-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and 428 liters of cargo space. The Spark EUV also comes with power-folding side mirrors, a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, cruise control, and regenerative braking, among others.

HARI has yet to make an official announcement as to when it will debut the Chevrolet Spark EUV.
