Hyundai’s new pickup truck is expected to make its world debut by mid-2027, according to information revealed by the Korean car brand’s top executive. Hyundai is eyeing a challenge to two of the most popular pickup trucks on the market, the Toyota Hilux and the Ford Ranger.

CarSales reported that Hyundai Australia CEO Don Romano said that the car brand’s new pickup truck could come sometime in June 2027. Romano was confident with the timeline he shared, as he had already discussed future plans with Hyundai’s executive lineup in Australia.

Romano, who is said to be graduating from his post as Hyundai Australia CEO in two years’ time, revealed that Hyundai Australia’s Chief Commercial Officer, Gavin Donaldson, will be his successor to steer the brand steadily as it introduces its new pickup truck.

Romano also did not hold back, reportedly stating that Hyundai is eyeing a challenge to the supremacy of the Toyota Hilux and the Ford Ranger, specifically in the Australian market. This hints that Hyundai’s new pickup truck will be sized similarly to the Hilux and the Ranger.

“Our main goal is to develop our own Hyundai ute with our own technology. And the size we’re looking at would be in the Ranger/HiLux [category],” Romano told CarSales.

The Hyundai Australia CEO goes on to say that the car brand’s new truck or ute will be “mind-blowing.” However, further and more concrete details about Hyundai’s upcoming pickup truck have yet to be shared or confirmed.

Last September 2025, Hyundai Motor Company announced that it would launch its first mid-size pickup truck in North America before 2030, targeting one of the largest segments in the industry. Since launching the Santa Cruz in 2021, the company has gained valuable experience and established a strong brand presence.

The timeline that Romano revealed fits with what Hyundai Motor Company revealed. Could the new Hyundai pickup truck arrive by June 2027? We’ll have to wait and see.
