Kia is starting to roll out its jack-of-all-trades SUV, the EV5, to global markets. Adding to Kia’s already impressive lineup, which includes the luxurious EV4, rugged EV9, compact EV3, and sporty EV6, the EV5 now joins them, with ‘versatility’ being the name of the game for this electrified SUV.

Powering this electric SUV is an 81.4 kWh battery, which powers an electric motor producing 217 hp to either the front or all four wheels, depending on the variant. As far as range goes, the Light version can go up to 530 km, on the other hand the Long Range version with an 88 kWh battery can go up to 665 km.

From the outside, the EV5 exudes a simple but stylish exterior. Starting with the front, the EV5 gives us another interpretation of Kia’s signature ‘Digital Tiger’ front fascia. The sides present simple, clean body lines to accentuate the sharp lines elsewhere, and the rear presents strong lines that present the tiger motif much like the front. The wheels are simple and sleek, in line with the overall clean, futuristic aesthetic. Last but not least, the boxy proportions neatly tie all of these design elements together in a package similar in size to the Sportage, making the sharp lines pop even more. All of which was inspired by Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ philosophy, which goes to show that opposites do indeed attract.

Stepping into the interior, you’re greeted with bold, sharp lines much like those found in the exterior, though aesthetics aren’t the only thing that the EV5 has going for it.

As previously mentioned, versatility is where it shines, as the backseats fold down completely flat to expand the already spacious trunk from 513 liters to 1,714 liters, making this SUV capable of handling any kind of cargo. From multiple suitcases of a globetrotter or the large bags of a golfer, this EV can handle any cargo, regardless of the user’s lifestyle.

Finally, the EV5 has features to ensure cabin comfort. From a three-zone climate control ensuring that the passenger in the first and second rows can tailor the temperatures to their individual tastes, to an ‘after-’blow function to remove any possible odors to keep the cabin fresh and comfortable.

Now, with all that said, the EV5 is definitely something to look forward to, though you might ask, “When are we gonna see this SUV in the Philippines?” Kia Philippines has confirmed that the general public will be given the chance to preview the EV5 at the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit from October 23-25 at the SMX Convention Center.
