MG Philippines teases the MG One and Cyberster ahead of 2024 launch

Philippine MG distributor SAIC Motor Philippines announced that the company will be launching the MG One crossover as well as the high performance MG Cyberster by 2024.

Expanding the brand’s portfolio of crossovers is the MG One, the first MG vehicle to be built under the new modular Sigma architecture, which allows for various body styles to adapt in any engine and transmission, including EV powertrains, while putting emphasis on space and ergonomics. It uses the design language first introduced in the MG GT, with flowing lines and contours that give off a sports car-like look. The two-tone contrast also adds to the sporty vibe of the crossover.

A simple, yet elegant cabin greets drivers and passengers as they get in the cabin of the MG One, with a triple screen array displayed in front of the driver, as well as a sporty looking D-shaped steering wheel.

Powering the MG One is a 1.5 liter turbocharged inline-four which makes for 181hp and 285Nm of torque, linked to a CVT transmission. On foreign markets, the MG One is available in Alpha and Beta variants, with the Alpha being the sportier variant, and the Beta being the more equipped variant of the duo.

The Cyberster, on the other hand, harks the return of the British roadster, rebuilt for the electrified age, borrowing MG’s heritage and know-how in making sports cars such as the MGB and the MGF in decades past.

Two power options are available for the Cyberster: a single motor RWD option with a 64kWh battery, developing 313PS, and a dual motor AWD setup with a 77kWh battery, with 544PS and 725Nm of torque. The latter can sprint from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds. It is unclear which options will be available in the Philippine market when it debuts next year.

Of course, the Cyberster doesn’t scrimp out of creature comforts, such as seats covered in leather and suede, Bose speakers, and triple screen array in front of the driver, as well as a touchscreen infotainment system. Adding to the oohs and ahhs are scissor doors, 20-inch wheels on Pirelli P-Zero tires, a taillight design inspired by the Union Jack, a soft top as well as flowing lines and sharp contours befitting a sports car of this caliber.

Both the MG One and the Cyberster will be launched in the first half of 2024. The reveal of both models coincides with the brand’s 100th anniversary this year.
