The all-new Toyota Ativ is one of the most anticipated models in the local automotive market. Aside from being the latest iteration of the country’s best-selling car, the Ativ is the most affordable Toyota hybrid to date.
But if you are not keen on getting into the electrified future, worry not: the Ativ also comes in non-hybrid variants. Our top candidate for the spot is the Ativ 1.3 E CVT. It offers better value than the other non-hybrid Ativs, and the base model CVT variant carries premium appeal and other convenient features one would not expect in a supposedly basic variant.

Does not look cheap
Exterior-wise, the 1.3 E has very few differences compared to the top-variant Ativ. Following the new Toyota design cue, the Ativ’s front fascia is identical across variants. Yes, including the LED headlights. The same goes for the rear-end. The only differences are the HEV badge, parking sonars, and the LED taillights on the 1.5 variants, as both 1.3 E variants use halogen bulbs.
Even the tire size of 195 60 R16 is the same between the 1.3 E and Ativ Hybrid. The difference lies only in the wheel design and lug patterns. The Ativ HEV is on a 5×100 PCD, while the non-hybrid Ativs are on a 4×100 PCD, like their predecessors.

Feature-packed
Stepping inside, the 1.3 E CVT still exudes value, with all the features it offers for a base model. The soft-touch leather dashboard accents found in the Ativ HEV made their way to the base model CVT, adding a premium vibe. Even the 1.3 E armrest also received soft-touch leather treatment.
Feeding vital information to the driver is a 7-inch digital instrument panel that the 1.3 E variants also received. Additionally, a keyless push-start engine button is also equipped on the 1.3 E models.

The Ativ 1.3 E CVT further exudes value through features like the 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; charging convenience courtesy of the four USB charging ports for both front and second row occupants; and, lastly, the rear passenger air conditioning vents, which are very much appreciated for a subcompact sedan.
The 1.3 E variants also received love in the safety department, as features such as ABS, Vehicle Stability Control, Hill-Start Assist, and Active Traction Control are standard across variants.

Initial Verdict
If you are considering the all-new Ativ but aren’t big on electrified mobility yet, the Toyota Ativ 1.3 E CVT is a promising daily companion. If one does not mind a small-displacement engine, the CVT-equipped E variant seems like a smart choice for a non-electrified Ativ, as it offers the best value in the range. With all the mentioned features, the Toyota Ativ 1.3 E CVT feels far from being a base model, with a price tag of P980,000.
