The Toyota Tamaraw is one of Toyota Motor Philippines’ (TMP) most talked-about models. From its utility people carrier guise in the ‘70s, to its more modern version in the ‘90s (a.k.a. Tamaraw FX), to its supposed final version in the late ‘90s to early 2000s called the Tamaraw FX Revo, the Tamaraw has touched the lives of many generations of families and business owners.
And then came late last year. TMP decided to throw in a spanner in its current model lineup, thus the return of the legendary Tamaraw, now in a more utilitarian pickup truck body.
Since its comeback, the Toyota Tamaraw has been making rounds in tons of TMP promotions, both in physical and digital forms. The brand even went as far as dressing it up as a race machine, which it introduced in Round 2 of this year’s Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup (TGR PH Cup).
The good news is that TMP will, again, show off the Tamaraw racing machine on August 9, 2025, the final round of the TGR PH Cup, which will take place at Clark International Speedway in Pampanga. This time, however, the utility race truck will step up its game and will have its sprint race.

TMP says that the Toyota Tamaraw race truck, which it refers to as the Tamaraw OMR (one-make race car), will headline the race weekend’s agenda with an exhibition sprint race, featuring race veterans and previous champions of the Toyota Vios Cup. The grid will be composed of previous Vios Cup Super Sporting Class champions Allan Uy (2016), Daniel Miranda (2017), Estefano Rivera (2021), and John Dizon (2023). The grid will be completed by multi-awarded racer Tyson Sy, a previous Vios Cup racecar test driver.
In addition, the Toyota Tamaraw will also have an exhibition drag race. With the sprint and drag race events laid out for the Tamaraw, Toyota is exploring the Tamaraw’s capabilities as a vehicle fit to go racing. Dreaming of a Tamaraw Cup someday, maybe? Now that’s something Filipino race fans ought to look forward to.

As with previous rounds of the TGR PH Cup, August 9’s program of activities also includes the TGR PH Cup race proper. These include 2 sprint races in the morning and an endurance race in the afternoon.
Other on-track events over the weekend are Toyota club races and drifting exhibitions. Outside the track, visitors will enjoy sim racing activities, as well as games, refreshments, and live band performances from Filipino rock band Over October.
