Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) has unveiled the Next-Generation Tamaraw, a proudly Philippine-made commercial vehicle, at a roll-off ceremony in its Laguna manufacturing plant and headquarters. The event also marked the opening of TMP’s newly built conversion facility, cementing the company’s commitment to strengthening local automotive manufacturing and economic growth.
The Tamaraw, a returning nameplate with deep roots in Filipino motoring culture, is built on Toyota’s new International Multi-purpose Vehicle 0 (IMV 0) platform, designed specifically for the Asian market. This strategic localization reflects Toyota’s dedication to boosting the Philippine economy, fostering local innovation, and meeting the mobility needs of diverse industries.
TMP’s Santa Rosa plant now manufactures three Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) models: the Vios, Innova, and the Next-Generation Tamaraw. With an annual production capacity exceeding 54,800 units, this expansion underscores TMP’s goal to enhance regional competitiveness, drive technology transfer, and sustain employment in the country.
“Built by Filipinos, for Filipinos, the Tamaraw is a testament to our commitment to nation-building, our belief in Filipino craftsmanship, and our mission to create ever-better cars for the Philippines,” said TMP Chairman Alfred V. Ty during his address.

Designed for versatility and durability, the Tamaraw caters to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), offering inclusive mobility solutions for a wide range of industries. Its practical features and robust design make it an ideal choice for business owners seeking reliable transport for their operations.
As part of its launch, TMP showcased its state-of-the-art 1.5-hectare Conversion Factory, built with a PHP 1.1 billion investment. The facility forms part of the PHP 5.5 billion IMV 0 project, which also includes investments in vehicle production and localization of parts. This advanced facility can convert the Tamaraw into three body styles—dropside, utility van, and aluminum van—with options for gas and diesel engines.
Toyota Asia Region Deputy CEO Hao Quoc Tien hailed the facility as a milestone for the Southeast Asian region, noting its cutting-edge technology designed to ensure safety, quality, efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
Beyond vehicle production, the Tamaraw project creates significant economic ripple effects by boosting TMP’s supply chain. Suppliers, including new parts manufacturers and returning builders from the previous Tamaraw era, have committed PHP 500 million for plant upgrades and equipment procurement, further strengthening local industries.
The roll-off ceremony was attended by key stakeholders from government, industry, and the Toyota network. TMP also revealed that the Next-Generation Tamaraw’s official launch is scheduled for December 6, with retail sales beginning in January 2025.
TMP’s bold step to revive the Tamaraw underscores its commitment to empowering Filipino enterprises while championing local craftsmanship and innovation. With this new chapter, Toyota continues to solidify its role as a vital partner in the nation’s journey toward industrial progress and inclusive mobility.
