Toyota motor corporation President Akio Toyoda is coming to the Philippines to put on his hat as “Morizo”.
Morizo is the name that Akio Toyoda takes whenever he is behind the wheel of a race car. For his trip to Manila, Toyoda is expected to be driving his Toyota race cars at the Toyota Gazzo racing Festival to be held on August 23 & 24 at the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta, Manila.
Morizo an avid racer himself, joined the 24 Hours Of Nurburgring in 2007 with his mentor Hiromu Naruse. That was the beginning of today’s Toyota’s fun racing campaign called “Waku-Doki”.
Toyoda would follow Naruse in his younger days, wanting to become what the old man was, Toyota’s most premier test driver, an expert who built cars that we only know to drive today, but was created with such passion.
The Japanese auto executive, even when he was made head of the worlds biggest car manufacturer, still managed to drive and race his Toyota cars. But such activities worried the more conservative top brass of Toyota, hence Toyoda resorted to using his nick name “Morizo” whenever he would sit behind and race car. This kept him from being recognized as he raced.
For the Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival, “Morizo” or Toyoda will be joined by popular race drivers like Alex Perez (a drifter and rally driver), Vios Cup first champion Luis Gono, actor and motorsport fanatic Ryan Agoncillo and of course ou very own Formula rac driver Marlon Stockinger.
Expect the Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival to be filled with tire screeches and smoke bombs as the crowd are treated to drifting and gymkhana competition.
The crowd will also have a chance to ride shotgun with Morizo himaself and the other race drivers.
Musical performance and other entertainment treats will be offered to make it a family affair.
