Going back to Old Manila in the Young, Sporty All-new Suzuki Swift

The competition in the compact hatchback segment has reignited with the introduction of the all-new Suzuki Swift in 2018. Deemed as one of the most notable models that Suzuki has offered in the country, the third generation Swift has contributed to the positive performance of Suzuki Auto Philippines amidst the trembling automotive industry last year.

Last March 28, Suzuki Philippines gave a group of motoring media a quick getaway from the busy-ness of the metro for a media test drive of the all-new Suzuki Swift to the scenic Las Casas de Acuzar in Bataan.

The two-day drive event kicked-off at Suzuki Auto Caloocan. The long convoy of white Suzuki Swifts traversed the North Luzon Expressway and keeping it intact was a challenge. But it also kept everyone in a steady pace. Good thing about this was that the improved NVH of the all-new Suzuki Swift has been greatly appreciated. Though a bit of road noise still made its way inside the cabin, it is still relatively quiet for a compact hatchback.

The after almost an hour in NLEX, the convoy exited at San Fernando, Pampanga taking the old route to Bataan. With sections under construction, in this long route I was able to feel the improved comfort of the all-new Suzuki Swift. Weaving in and out lanes that are under construction and doing overtaking maneuvers, the Swift felt quick to control and drives easy.

The Swift steers easy as it comes naturally being a compact hatchback. Power is also quite promising considering the small displacement engine it has under the hood. Driving the Suzuki Swift does not feel like it is powered by a little 1.2-liter four banger. This awesome power-to-weight distribution could primarily be attributed to the lightweight HEARTECT platform found in the all-new Suzuki Swift.

As expected, fuel efficiency is good as well. On our way to Bataan, I was able to clock in the average of 15km/L and Suzuki Philippines is claims that the Swift can even do better. As our convoy gets near to Las Casas, the roads became twisty. On the winding road, the Swift handled even better and easier. I was able to have so much fun with the Swift 1.2 GLX. It made me imagine how more delightful driving the Swift Sport would be. Oh, how I wish that little sporty monster will be available in the Philippines.

Arriving at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, everyone was quick into their cameras chasing that good afternoon lighting to capture the Suzuki hatchback. Giving a perfect contrast to the old Manila setting of Las Casas, the Suzuki Swift featured in the media drive sports a new accessory kit that gave a more dynamic look to the already sporty-looking Suzuki compact hatchback.

The special dress up kit includes a special edition front grill, front bumper lip, carbon fiber finished side skirt, rear bumper skirt and a sporty rear roof wing. Topping all these are the sporty racing stripes that goes from the hood to the tailgate. Though, personally not a fan of carbon fiber decals, I must say that the carbon fiber decals gave a decent accent to the white body of the Swift. I believe it will do so in other color variants, too.

Perfect for the young ones and those who are young at heart, the Suzuki Swift is not only a practical daily commuter but a fun car to drive, too. It has the complete package: the sporty looks, fun driving dynamics, fuel efficiency and riding comfort. Driving the all-new Suzuki Swift for two days was way too short to enjoy this little hatchback. The Suzuki Swift is the fun daily driver you thought you never needed.
