A 44.6-kilometer tollway project that aims to decongest the commercial and industrial area of Cavite and Laguna, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently announced that a portion of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) will be passable just in time for the Undas long weekend.
Saving motorists going to Tagaytay or Batagas from the heavy traffic in Sta. Rosa area, this latest project from the DPWH and Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) aims to offer South Luzon Expressway’s (SLEX) Mamplasan exit as another alternative to Sta. Rosa exit for motorists going to Tagaytay or Batangas. The four-lane expressway that is set to have nine interchanges will link CAVITEX in Kawit, Cavite to SLEX-Mamplasan Interchance in Binan, Laguna in full completion.
In partial operation since October 30, CALAX has opened its first 10km to motorists. Currently, the Mamplasan Barrier and Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road are the only entry and exit points on CALAX since the expressway is only at 90 percent completion. As per DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, the remaining works are being fast tracked and the agency aims to have CALAX’s first segment in full operations by December this year.
Since its first day of operations, motorists are able to use a single lane portion of CALAX. In time of the Undas holidays, CALAX will be open to motorists on October 31 to November 2 from 6:00am to 10:00pm.
Starting November 3, the schedule of access on CALAX will be from Sunday to Thursday, 6:00am to 6:00pm. CALAX will extend its operations on weekends Friday to Saturday, 6:00am to 10:00pm. For the initial operations of its first segment, CALAX will be toll free.
