Chinese car brand BYD is discontinuing its innovative and unique in-cabin feature, the rotating touchscreen, in the future. This news was according to a report published by the Australia-based website Car Sales.

According to the report, BYD has decided to phase out the rotating touchscreen feature in its future models since it “wasn’t frequently used.” The said reason is reportedly gathered by the brand through customer feedback.

The report goes on to say that the said feature is meant to showcase BYD’s high-tech in-cabin features, but with the brand’s internal study, it seems that consumers place less importance on the said feature. With its low usage, BYD will reportedly not include the rotating touchscreen on new development models.

BYD did not share any details as to when it will actually end the inclusion of the said feature as of this writing. This could give BYD an opportunity to explore other tech features that would make its vehicles unique. As to what those features are, only time will tell what BYD has in store for the market.

The rotating infotainment touchscreen is one of the things that made BYD’s vehicles unique, including in the Philippine market. It is also among the selling points that BYD Philippines has highlighted in showcasing the tech-savviness of its vehicles.

Locally, the rotating infotainment touchscreen is integrated into BYD vehicles such as the BYD e-Max 7 MPV, BYD Sealion 5 DM-i, and BYD Shark pickup truck, among others.

The rotating infotainment touchscreen on BYD vehicles sold in the Philippines is integrated with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a feature that makes its vehicles stand out from the competition.

The said feature allows the infotainment touchscreen to rotate or switch between landscape and portrait orientations. This is said to offer flexibility for different functions such as navigation and media. The screen’s size varies by BYD vehicle, with options such as 10.1-inch, 12.8-inch, and 15.6-inch.
