Bentley journeys through 40 years of turbocharged GTs at Goodwood

Bentley celebrates its four decades of handcrafting turbocharged grand tourers at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England by parading 10 extraordinary models. The quintessentially British automaker revealed its first turbocharged production model — the iconic Mulsanne Turbo — at the Geneva Motor Show exactly 40 years ago.

The arrival of the Mulsanne Turbo, heralded as the “return of the Blower Bentley,” marked a turning point in the company’s fortunes as it redefined Bentley’s performance credentials. Since then, the immense reserves of power and effortless torque characterizing Bentley engines have become inseparably associated with turbocharging. Bentley’s current W12, V8 and V6 engines all benefit from turbocharging to deliver astonishing levels of performance and efficiency.

Showcasing these forced-induction strengths at the Goodwood Festival of Speed are seven turbocharged Bentley models from the brand’s Heritage Collection, which are accompanied by key boosted models from the current range. Taking the audience through a turbocharged journey across four decades are the 1991 Turbo R, 2001 Arnage Red Label, 2003 Continental R Mulliner Final Series, 2010 Brooklands, 2010 Mulsanne, 2011 Continental Supersports, 2014 Continental GT V8 S, 2022 Continental GTC S, 2022 Flying Spur S and 2022 Continental GT Mulliner.

Further adding emotion to Bentley’s Goodwood parade are the global debut of the brand’s new S range of models — the Continental GT S, the Continental GTC S and the Flying Spur S. All are powered by Bentley’s latest 4.0-liter V8 engine and are focused on driving performance and visual presence. Just like the Blower Bentley.
