TOKYO, JAPAN – Japanese luxury car brand Lexus has formally began its journey to full electrification by 2035 as it introduced a peek at the production version of the LF CZ here at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show.
The Japan Mobility Show replaces the erstwhile Tokyo Motor Show as the region’s biggest automotive festival as it transforms into a wholistic and lifestyle centered trade show.
This LF CZ or Lexus Future Zero-emission Catalyst uses DIRECT4 all-wheels drive technology that Lexus took from the RZ.
There was not much to go on about the concept model except for the batteries it will be fitted with. The LF ZC will have a “prismatic, high performance batteries” that has twice the range of current EV’s in the market today. That means it will have up to 1,000 kilometers of distance to travel on a fully charged power source.
Lexus plans to sell this next-generation model in 2026, with an aim to give Lexus a full electric line-up by 2026.
Chief branding officer Simon Humphries presented the new car as a “fusion of physical and digital technologies.” The LF CZ is a strikingly styled concept sitting on an all-new electric architecture.
The body of the LF ZC is low-slung and it has a wedge shaped formula that depicts speed, power and modernity. It has wedges on its wheels that imply an intent to defy time as it shoots to the future.
The interior of the LF ZC is very high tech. The driver is presented with a yoke that uses steer-by-wire technology to handle the vehicle. Seats are low and forward while many of its functions can be accessed by the driver from a digital pad. Passengers have their own screens for entertainment and applications.
The LF CZ uses the Arene OS system and an AI ”Butler” that can now learn the drivers preferences.
Lexus also put on display the LF ZL that also run on the Arene OS with an Interative Reality ion Motion feature using onboard sensors that create an atmosphere congruent with the driver and the surrounding environment.
“When drivers point to objects or places of interests during their journey, the car’s display promptly delivers information along with voice guidance,” Lexus describes this technology.
The LF ZL means Lexus Future Zero—emission Luxury which is on its own self descriptive. No other information about the built of these two models have been revealed by Lexus so far.
