Baguio City is one of the go-to places for every Filipino family during holidays and long weekends. But the traffic congestion in the area keeps worsening which makes traveling a hassle for both the locals and the tourists.
So the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) introduced new measures to help lighten the traffic in the city especially on holidays.
BCPO City Director Senior Superintendent Ramil Saculles assured these changes after assessing the volume of traffic on the most frequently visited places by the tourists like Wright Park, Mansion House and the Mines View Park area. The Session Road was assessed as well.
“On matters of strategy, it will always be the people who should help in solving the traffic. It is for this reason why I have requested the city for additional traffic enforcers and auxiliaries who would fill up the needed number of traffic personnel with the deployment from 6am to 12 noon and from 1pm to 8pm,” Saculles explained.
BCPO would be needing around 80-90 personnel to man the so called 25 critical and conflict areas of the city. At present, BCPO only has around 46 traffic auxiliary force.
Saculles said that they already made an appeal to the City Council to consider upgrading the city’s traffic lights and increasing the fine on obstruction of traffic to help on putting the traffic on a lighter situation. He also said that the management of the creation of additional multi level pay parking areas particularly at the Burnham Park, Igorot Park, Old Library, the Jadewell parking should be more prioritized.
On top of that, Saculles also proposed for traffic beat men to have special trainings saying that the traffic problem should be handled by peoples who knows how to drive and for them to look at it as an engineering problem due to the fact that what they manage are vehicles.
